Charles Watts has shared that people inside Arsenal tell him that the transfer pursuit of Ajax defender Jurrien Timber is still ‘on-going’.
The Football London journalist added that Jurrien Timber is ‘very, very excited’ about possibly securing a transfer to Mikel Arteta’s side from Ajax this summer.
He added that there is ‘hope’ that both Arsenal and the Dutch giants can come to an agreement on a transfer fee for the 22-year-old defender, as they are currently ‘quite away’ in valuation, as he told Arsenal Insider.
Arsenal’s transfer guru Edu Gaspar has a lot on his plate, at the minute, as he tries to spin and conclude as many deals as possible.
On top of this Timber interest, the north London are trying to get through Kai Havertz’s deal from Chelsea, whilst the one they want the most, Declan Rice, has been taking some interesting twists and turns of late.
But, in regards to their push for Timber, who can operate at both right-back and at the heart of the defence, this was the latest update dropped by Arsenal transfer expert, Watts.

“My understanding of the Timber situation is that there is progress being made with that,” said Watts. “Someone I have spoken to at Arsenal said, it’s very much ‘on-going’ that situation.
“I am expecting a second bid to go in, at some point, pretty soon. I have heard as well that Timber is very, very excited about a potential move to Arsenal, which might help them because there is other interest. Bayern Munich have been linked, but as far as I am aware, he is very interested in a move to Arsenal.
“Ajax and Arsenal are quite away in the valuation, at the moment – but there is hope that they can come to an agreement and this move can get over the line, at some point in the near future. I don’t expect Arsenal to go anywhere near the £60 million mark that Ajax are looking for, I think if a deal does get agreed, then it will be pretty far below that. Maybe around £40-50 million.”

How will Arteta use Timber?
During the recently-concluded season, which was one to forget for Ajax, Timber was used as a centre-back throughout the campaign, so is he going to come in and challenge William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes for a starting spot?
Or perhaps, just like Ben White, he will be switched to right-back, which some fans think that Arsenal need to upgrade on.
Either way, it’s another sign that they are bulking up their squad and ensuring that, just like Manchester City, they have enough quality on the bench to try and win the marathon of the Premier League title.
