Newcastle United have enquired about Juventus’ Federico Chiesa and could move for Sandro Tonali’s AC Milan team-mate Theo Hernandez as the Italy international closes in on a move to the Premier League.

Sandro Tonali’s pristine performance during Italy’s U21 European Championship clash with France on Thursday night was certainly an intriguing sign of things to come.

The Milan midfielder, reportedly on his way to Newcastle United for a club-record equalling fee of £60 million, was head and shoulders above every one else in an Italy shirt; one of his trademark pinpoint set-pieces setting up Pietro Pellegrini’s goal in an eventual 2-1 defeat.

And Tonali, according to Gianluca di Marzio, is not the only Milan star on Newcastle’s radar.

The Magpies are also keen on Theo Hernandez; the Rossoneri’s runaway train of a left-back. The former Real Madrid and Atletico flyer, one of the finest attacking full-backs in world football and a man renowned for his stunning solo goals, has scored or assisted 25 goals over the last two seasons, helping Milan end their decade-long wait for the Scudetto in 2022.

Calciomercato believe that Hernandez, like Tonali, is valued at £60 million.

Di Marzio adds that Newcastle could also make a move for Federico Chiesa; the star of Italy’s Euro 2022 triumph. The jet-heeled winger appeared to be on his way to the very top of the world game at the time, but a serious injury has since stalled his progress.

Chiesa did show some signs of getting back to his rampaging best last term, however; Di Marzio adding that Newcastle’s interest in the former Fiorentina whizzkid is more serious than it is for his Juventus team-mate; Dusan Vlahovic.

“For Chiesa, it will be extremely difficult to meet the expectations. I’ve heard talk about him winning the Ballon d’Or in three or four years. I agree (he can),” Juventus legend Alessio Tacchinardi told Tuttosport back in 2021.

“I see the same (skills) Pavel Nedved had. (Chiesa) has enormous qualities. He dribbles left and right and can shoot with very little space.

“Last year he touched the border of the top players. I believe he will get there this year.”
