Premier League newcomers Burnley could miss out on Kamil Grabara with Serie A giants Inter Milan now in talks to sign the former Liverpool goalkeeper.

Vincent Kompany’s pursuit of a new number one is not exactly going to plan.

After renewing their interest in Bart Verbruggen with a £12 million bid, Burnley were pipped to the post by top-flight rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.

Their chase for Poland international Kamil Grabara now appears to be going the same way.

“On the radar of Burnley since April, Inter Milan and (director) Piero Ausilio have noted the name of Kamil Grabara as one of the alternatives in the event of the departure of Andre Onana,” reporter Sacha Tavolieri writes on Twitter

“Information has already been taken with his entourage.”

Burnley could miss out to Inter Milan

Inter look likely to lose Andre Onana to Manchester United. Onana, who played under Erik ten Hag and alongside both Lisandro Martinez and Antony at Ajax, could leave the cash-strapped San Siro outfit for a bargain £40 million. His agent was reportedly in Manchester for talks this week (Gianluca di Marzio).

Should Grabara replace him at one of Europe’s biggest clubs, this would be quite the turnaround for a 6ft 5ins giant of a shot-stopper who was let go by Liverpool without ever making a senior appearance back in 2021.

Grabara represented Huddersfield Town in England’s second tier as recently as three years ago too.

Burnley could now turn to Jean Butez instead in the hope that third time is indeed the charm. Butez kept a remarkable 27 clean sheets in all competitions last term; Royal Antwerp winning the Belgian top-flight for the first time since 1957.

“I’m not going to deny it; my ambition is to take a step higher and there are opportunities to make a transfer,” he tells RTBF . “I am now 27 years old, and this might be the ideal time for a transfer.

“But even if I stay, the summer will be a success for me. I may be able to discover the Champions League with Antwerp next season.”
