Jose Enrique has questioned ‘why’ Liverpool are waiting until after the U21 European Championships to bid for Khephren Thuram because his transfer price might go ‘even higher’ during the tournament.
France’s U21s will be one of the favourites to win the 2023 European Championships, which will be held in Georgia and Romania starting tonight, with the sought-after midfielder and Nice star, Khephren Thuram, set to feature.
But given Liverpool’s links with the 22-year-old, Enrique posted via his Instagram story that the club are risking the chance to buy the player cheaper by going for his talents in a few weeks’ time.
Whilst it’s not a major tournament like the senior Euros or the World Cup, if France come home with the prize and Thuram stars, then Nice have every right to add a few more million to his name.
And as Liverpool fans know too well, their club doesn’t operate in such a way that it can throw money around like fun, as the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea have done over the years.
Nonetheless, upon hearing Liverpool’s rumoured plan for Thuram, former left-back Enrique sent out this following message: “Why are we waiting until after the U21 (European Championships),” asked Enrique. “If he (Thuram) does well there, then the price will go even higher.”

‘Technically gifted’ Thuram
If Liverpool are to get back into the Champions League next season, but most importantly, challenge the flying machine Manchester City for the Premier League title, then their midfield needs a serious revamp.
James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will officially leave by the end of this month.
Alexis Mac Allister has already joined, so perhaps, two more new faces could be brought in, with European expert Julien Laurens calling Thuram as someone who is more ‘technically gifted’ than Manu Kone amid rumours about their futures.
