Charles Watts has stated that Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar understand the ‘type of reaction’ Arsenal will receive from fans if they secure the transfer of Kai Havertz from Chelsea.

The Arsenal transfer expert shared that Kai Havetz has ‘divided an awful lot of opinion’ as Arsenal look to close a deal for the one-time Champions League winner, as he told his own YouTube channel.

Like many Chelsea players this season, the 24-year-old has struggled at Stamford Bridge, but despite that decline, both Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar are keen to bring the versatile forward on board, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

The issue is, if fans were told that a forward was going to join the club this summer, then they were hoping and expecting an out-and-out striker.

Not a player that has struggled whilst playing as a number nine, Havertz only scored seven Premier League goals this term, Bukayo Saka scored double that amount from the right flank.

Despite that, Arteta and Edu are pushing forward with this deal and Watts shared that ‘they aren’t stupid’ and they know full well what the fans are saying, thinking and what they will say if he makes that move across London.

“Not many Chelsea players have pulled up any trees at Chelsea, certainly in the last 12 months or so,” said Watts. “You can factor that into it, perhaps.

“But he is certainly a player that has divided an awful lot of opinion – that’s going to be the key thing. That’s how people are going to view this transfer. It depends on how much Arsenal end up paying for him.

“Chelsea want close to £70-75 million, if Arsenal pay anything close to that, then people are going to look at it and think ‘you have had one there. You have given Chelsea an awful lot of money and possibly helped Chelsea get out of a difficult financial situation and allowed them to spend some money on big-name targets, Moises Caicedo, especially’.

“If Arsenal sign him, then Arteta and Edu certainly are going to know, they aren’t stupid, by any means, they are very smart people. They will know the type of reaction that this type of signing is going to cause. They will look at it ‘okay, Chelsea player not playing too well’. They know what type of reaction it’s going to make and they have certainly taken that on board.”

Arteta should be trusted by Arsenal fans

There were question marks over the signing of Ben White, yet he proved his worth and is still doing so. The same with Aaron Ramsdale, who had suffered back-to-back relegations before joining.

Yet, fast forward to the present, and he is one of Arsenal’s best and most important players.

Fans might be divided right now, but Arteta has earned the trust, he should be trusted and backed by the Arsenal faithful because he has made big improvements during these past 18 months.
