The agent of Nicolo Barella is now set for crunch talks with Inter Milan over his future
at San Siro. The Italy midfielder is a transfer target of Newcastle United and Liverpool.

That is according to Calciomercato, which reports that Barella’s representative will speak to Inter Milan imminently. His agent is scheduled to sit down with the Serie A side at their HQ at Viale della Liberazione in the coming days to take stock of his situation with the Nerazzurri.

Barella’s agent has caught wind of potential interest in the 26-year-old’s transfer from Inter Milan this summer. So, the midfielder’s camp believe now is the time to discuss what is real and what direction the team wishes to take. Yet Inter Milan are in no rush to see Barella go.

How much do Inter Milan want to grant Barella’s transfer?

For now, Inter Milan’s position on a transfer for Barella is clear in that he only can leave for the right offer. The Nerazzurri’s owner, Steven Zhang, does not feel any player at San Siro is indispensable. But he will only let Barella go for bids in the region of €80-90m (£68.5-77m).

Barella’s position on a move away from Inter Milan remains unclear, however. He has often baulked at the idea of leaving Serie A for the Premier League as the midfielder views Milan as the perfect setting for his career. It may take a very lucrative offer to tempt him to move.

Newcastle and Liverpool could fight for the Italian’s signature

Add in Inter Milan’s asking price, Newcastle have room to make up to seal Barella’s transfer this summer. The Telegraph reported earlier in June that the Magpies are pushing hard for a £50m move. But the Toon are not alone in liking a player Jamie Carragher calls ‘fantastic’.

A move to Anfield may also be on the cards as Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this week that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is a ‘big fan’ of Barella and could pursue his transfer from Inter Milan. The Merseysiders have followed the midfielder’s career for a number of years.

Newcastle and Liverpool fighting for Barella’s transfer would only serve to strengthen Inter Milan’s asking price. He is also under contract at San Siro until June 2026 and is integral to their line-up. Barella further played 52 games for nine goals and 10 assists during 2022/23.
