Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are reportedly on the verge of signing Mateo Kovacic from Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea.

ESPN are reporting this morning that Manchester City are on the verge of completing a deal for Chelsea and Croatia international central midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

The report has claimed that City will pay Premier League rivals Chelsea €40 million (£34.2m) in transfer fees for the 29-year-old, described as “incredible” by West Ham United and England international midfielder Declan Rice in February 2022.

Treble-winners City will reportedly complete the deal “within the next fortnight”, according to ESPN.

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic could flourish at Manchester City

In our view, Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic would be a very good signing for Manchester City in the summer transfer window, especially for just £34 million.

It is a bargain price for a player who is at the top of his game at the moment and is a former Real Madrid star.

The way Kovacic plays his football, his passing range, his ability to distribute the ball, and his versatility to operate in a number of positions in midfield would make him an asset at City.

The 29-year-old would arrive at City as a readymade midfielder for Pep Guardiola’s side, and we believe that he would be able to make an immediate impact at the Etihad Stadium.
