Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are reportedly planning to make a bid for Felix Nmecha, a player Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United have also been linked with.
According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are interested in signing Manchester United target Felix Nmecha and are preparing to make a bid for the 22-year-old VfL Wolfsburg midfielder.
The report has claimed that the box-to-box midfielder will cost £15 million in transfer fees.
Sport1 have reported that Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund are also keen on the Germany international, who has been compared to Real Madrid and France legend Zinedine Zidane.
Bundesliga’s official website have stated: “Nmecha clearly has a way to go before even coming close to matching the France great’s immense feats in the game, but with his considerable strength, excellent close control, nonchalant ball delivery and loping runs, the Wolfsburg No. 22 bears more than a passing resemblance to the legendary Zizou.”
The Telegraph have added that Newcastle have moved onto Nmecha after realising that Nice and France international midfielder Khephren Thuram is too expensive for them at £30 million.
Could Newcastle United sign Felix Nmecha?
In our view, Newcastle United could struggle to sign Felix Nmecha, with Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund also keen on the VfL Wolfsburg midfielder.
Dortmund are a massive club in Germany who regularly challenge for the Bundesliga title, and the midfielder could feel that staying in his home country would be beneficial for his career.
After all, he is only 22, and he will get chances to move abroad if he continues to develop and progress.
Manchester United are arguably the biggest club in England and are a global brand, and the Red Devils would be more appealing than Newcastle to Nmecha if he does decide to move abroad this summer.
Yes, Newcastle will play in the UEFA Champions League next season, but so will Erik ten Hag’s side, who will also aim to compete for the Premier League title in the coming years.
The former Manchester City prospect made 19 starts and 11 substitute appearances in the Bundesliga this past season, scoring three goals and providing five assists in the process.
