Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea could be able to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan for £55 million.

According to The Sun, Chelsea are interested in signing Andre Onana from Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.

Inter have found a potential replacement for Onana in Guglielmo Vicario and are looking for £55 million to sell the Cameroonian star.

The Serie A club, who lost to Manchester City in the final of the UEFA Champions League this past weekend, will now push to get a deal done with Empoli for Vicario, according to The Sun.

The report in the British tabloid has added that new Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino is “a huge admirer of Onana and is eager to get a deal done”.

This follows a claim in Italian news outlet TMW last week that Chelsea have had a bid of €40 million (£34.25 million) for Onana turned down by Inter.

The report claimed that the 27-year-old – who, according to Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola in Metro last Friday, is “an exceptional goalkeeper” – himself wants to move to the Premier League and has a broad agreement with Chelsea over a potential transfer.

Should Chelsea pay £55 million for Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana?

In our view, if Chelsea are really determined to sign Andre Onana and if new head coach Mauricio Pochettino personally wants the Inter Milan goalkeeper in his team, then the Blues should pay the £55 million transfer fee needed.

Now, it is clear that Onana will be the number one goalkeeper for Chelsea if he joins the Blues.

That would leave Kepa and Edouard Mendy as mere squad players.

It would make sense for Chelsea to sell both Kepa and Mendy and use that money to fund a move for Onana.

True, Pochettino would ideally like a really good goalkeeper as back-up to Onana, but it is unlikely that Kepa or Mendy would be happy knowing that they would not get too many chances.

Perhaps Marcus Bettinelli could become the number two goalkeeper at Chelsea next season.
