Borna Sosa has reportedly told his Stuttgart team-mates he is leaving with the Premier League a dream destination for the West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United-linked left-back.

And Croatia international walks away from the Mercedes Benz Arena with his head held high. Stuttgart hammered Hamburg 6-1 in the relegation play-off over two legs; retaining their Bundesliga status rather emphatically in the end.

But even the most hard-nosed VFB supporter would have to accept that Sosa deserves better than scrapping for survival at the bottom of the table. Linked with West Ham, Tottenham and Newcastle, among others, the Zagreb-born 25-year-old is one of Europe’s most creative full-backs (Index)

His devilish deliveries from the left-hand side certainly could be used to excellent effect at a club with more reliable forwards at their disposal; Sosa assisting 31 Bundesliga goals in three seasons for a largely-struggling side.

Is Borna Sosa finally heading to the Premier League?

According to BILD, via BuliNews, Sosa has already said ‘goodbye’ to his Stuttgart team-mates; Tuesday’s 3-1 second leg win over HSV likely to be his final appearance for the 2007 Bundesliga champions.

“Every player sets goals in his career. I want to play in a team that is represented in Europe if possible,” Sosa told BILD recently, shortly after seeing a January switch to Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen collapse.

“Like many players, I dream of playing in the Premier League one day. It’s the strongest league in the world. The other teams besides the big six top clubs are also strong.”

Only one of Newcastle, West Ham and Tottenham – Eddie Howe’s Magpies – finished in the European places last term.

All three clubs appear to be in the market for a left-sided defender, however. The £22 million-rated Sosa – like Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney – possesses the thrust and the crossing ability to thrive at St James’ Park, while West Ham need a left-back capable of emulating Aaron Cresswell’s creativity on the flank.

Tottenham, now under the stewardship of Ange Postecoglou, could lose Ivan Perisic; the former Inter Milan flyer very much ‘Conte’s man’.

Spurs do have Destiny Udogie arriving from Udinese, however.

Tottenham, BILD reporter Christian Falk says, opened talks with Sosa a few months ago.
