Ally McCoist has backed new Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou to sign Leicester City star James Maddison to play alongside Harry Kane.

The former striker doesn’t think Tottenham have replaced Christian Eriksen – over three years after he left the club.

A lot has gone in that man’s life during that period, in fact, COVID hadn’t even hit yet, but McCoist thinks a player like James Maddison would provide that ‘telling’ and ‘killer’ pass if he were to secure a transfer to the London club this summer, as he told talkSPORT.

It’s obvious to all that the 26-year-old will head for the exit door, after Leicester suffered relegation to the Championship.

It’s just a case of what road he goes down. Spurs have been in need of that playmaker for some while now.

But they aren’t in Europe, so they will be on the back foot, in that regard, either way, McCoist is backing Ange Postecoglou, after leaving Celtic, to secure Maddison’s signature.

“I don’t think they have replaced Eriksen in that number ten role,” said McCoist. ”That one which will make the telling pass. The killer pass.

“I think Maddison would be absolutely brilliant at it. Harry Kane has a big decision. If you can keep Harry Kane, and get him more ammunition with someone like Madison, tighten up at the back, goalkeeper as well, then you will do alright.”

England fans will get to see it on the international stage, but will Spurs fans be able to view it on the domestic stage?

First and foremost, they have to keep Harry Kane in the building. If they can, then it’s trying to lure Maddison towards their direction, which would increase because Kane hasn’t left.

But the duo working together would really light up the Spurs fans and allow Postecoglou to bring back that attacking and entertaining brand of football that fans have been craving for.
