Highbury legend Kevin Campbell thinks Rob Holding should leave Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal during the 2023 summer transfer window.

William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes are Arsenal’s first-choice centre-backs, with Rob Holding, who joined the club in 2016, the back-up option alongside January capture, Jakub Kiwior.

But for Campbell, he thinks Holding’s ‘time is up’ and he ‘wouldn’t be surprised’ if he does leave during these coming months, as he told the Highbury Squad.

Holding’s issue is that, from the very first day he has been at the Emirates, the 27-year-old hasn’t been able to cement his place in the first XI.

Whether it’s under Arsene Wenger, Unai Emery or now Arteta, it hasn’t worked out for the Englishman, which is probably a sign that he needs to head for the exit door.

And Campbell, as the Gunners look to boost their squad this summer, thinks Holding’s spot should be ‘upgraded’.

“I think Rob Holding, his time is up,” said Campbell. “It’s going to be no surprise to us (if Holding leaves). But that’s a spot that has to be upgraded anyway.”

HOLDING NEEDS TO DROP DOWN A LEVEL

Arsenal are now a Champions League club, and even before then, Holding wasn’t probably good enough to play for them on a regular basis.

It’s quite clear that he needs to drop down a level or two, so that he can get those minutes under his belt and showcase what he is about.

Perhaps joining a team that’s outside of Europe would be Holding’s best bet because, the ones currently in it, from Brighton to Newcastle, would be difficult to break into.
