Arsenal are reportedly hoping that Mikel Arteta can convince Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan to join the Gunners.

The London Evening Standard have reported that Arsenal are interested in signing Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan in the summer transfer window.

Gundogan is out of contract at Premier League champions City at the end of the season, and Arsenal reportedly want to secure the services of the Germany international midfielder on a free transfer.

Arteta worked with Gundogan when he was an assistant coach at City, and Arsenal will reportedly hope that the Spaniard can convince the midfielder to move to the Emirates Stadium.

“The Spaniard played a key role in persuading Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko to leave City for Arsenal last summer,” states the report in The London Evening Standard.

Arsenal could struggle to sign Ilkay Gundogan

In our view, Arsenal could struggle to sign Ilkay Gundogan in the summer transfer window.

The London Evening Standard have reported that Barcelona are keen on the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder.

City also want to keep the midfielder, described as “an amazing player” by Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

We do not think that the midfielder will leave CIty for another club in England.

Barcelona are aiming to become a force in European football again, and they also won the La Liga title this past season.

Gundogan could find the chance to play in Spain very appealing, having succeeded in the Bundesliga and in the Premier League.
