Everton may have a second chance to bring Thorgan Hazard to the Premier League with the Borussia Dortmund winger admitting that the time has come for him to ‘leave’ the Bundesliga runners-up.

Eden is not the only Hazard brother who won’t be looking back on a difficult campaign with much fondness.

The Real Madrid misfit’s younger brother joined PSV Eindhoven on loan in January; the Eredivisie giants fighting off competition from Everton. But, despite arriving amid lofty expectations, Thorgan Hazard returns to Germany having started just one Eredivisie game under Ruud van Nistelrooy, even if he did find the net during the Dutch Cup final victory over Ajax.

Needless to say, a PSV side attempting to cope with serious financial issues will not be signing Hazard permanently. And, with the 30-year-old reluctant to spend another season on Borussia bench, the ball rolls into Everton’s court.

Will Everton return for Dortmund winger Thorgan Hazard?

“We agreed that we would talk when I returned from holiday to find the best solution. And I think I should leave (Dortmund),” Hazard tells Het Nieuwsblad.

According to Belgian publication DH Net, Everton were keen on the 47-time Rote Duivel star during the winter window. If the Toffees are to renew their interest, however, they will first want assurances that Hazard can put those niggling fitness issues behind him, Sean Dyche already contending his fair share of injuries in the attacking department with Dominic Calvert-Lewin missing the vast majority of yet another campaign.

Hazard’s Dortmund contract expires in 2024. A BVB side who lost the Bundesliga title to rivals Bayern Munich on a dramatic final day are likely to accept a massive reduction on the £25 million fee they paid Borussia Monchengladbach for the one-time Chelsea prospect back in 2019.

“Thorgan is a versatile player. (He) can be deployed in multiple positions up front,” PSV’s former Everton director Marcel Brands said after beating his old employers to Hazard’s signature four months ago.

“And he brings a lot of international experience.”
