Newcastle United are thought to be closing in on signing Celta Viga wonderkid Gabri Veiga this summer.

Celta Vigo talent Gabri Veiga is now edging closer to joining Newcastle United despite links to Real Madrid.

That is according to a report from Spanish newspaper Marca, who claim with their big headline that Veiga is ‘very close’ to joining Newcastle.

They highlight that Newcastle have been one of the teams most strongly pursuing Veiga sduring his breakout campaign.

The report adds that Newcastle have made their offer for Veiga’s signature and are ‘best placed’ to snap him up.

Real Madrid have been interested in signing Veiga but they have instead focused on signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.

It’s added that Celta have been desperately trying to sort out a new deal for Veiga given that his release clause stands at just €30million (£26million).

Celta are now resigned to losing Veiga though and with Newcastle able to offer big money, it’s suggested that the midfielder may soon make the move to Tyneside.

Gabri Veiga is a real coup if Newcastle get a deal done

Veiga has broken through the Celta ranks and has become La Liga’s new emerging talent of the season.

The 21-year-old has been outstanding in midfield, racking up nine goals and four assists in 35 games.

That kind of attacking threat has made Veiga a wanted man and suitors have been rumoured for weeks now.

Spanish reporter Manu Sainz, who was speaking to AS TV, suggested in March that Liverpool were keen to snap up Veiga.

Sainz backed that up earlier in May as he told AS – as quoted by Sport Witness – that he saw Veiga as being closer to joining Liverpool than Real Madrid.

Yet with Liverpool now focusing on midfielders like Alexis Mac Allister and Manu Kone, the door has been left open for Newcastle to swoop in.

Veiga looks to be a huge talent for the future and if Newcastle can get this done, they may have just landed a starring midfielder for years to come.
