Dominik Szoboszlai admits he’d ‘consider’ a move away from RB Leipzig amid interest from Premier League giants Newcastle United.
After scoring the goal which secured Champions League qualification for Marco Rose’s side – a dramatic, stoppage-time winner against Werder Bremen at the Red Bull Arena – will the Hungary international be sticking around as Leipzig look to make a splash in Europe’s biggest stage?
His commitment to the Red Bull cause will certainly come under question; Newcastle United weighing up a deal with a £60 million release clause in Dominik Szoboszlai’s contract (Sky Sports).

Newcastle United like RB Leipzig ace Dominik Szoboszlai
“If there is interest, I will consider it,” the former Salzburg playmaker tells Index. “Not because I don’t have a good turn in Leipzig, but because I have always been interested in challenges.
“On one side of the scale is a good Leipzig, with a coach who trusts me and team-mates who accept me and also believe in me. No footballer can wish for more than that.
“At the same time, on the other side, there is the question; if I can now take a step towards Europe’s top five or six clubs, should I say no to the challenge? I’ve never been that type.
“I am in a very good position, as I can play in a fantastic club. However, I don’t want to look back on my career 15 years from now as if I didn’t get the most out of it.”
Eddie Howe wants proven Premier League talent
A Newcastle side who will be joining Leipzig in the Champions League next term have their sights set on Szoboszlai and his Red Bull team-mate Amadou Haidara, even if Magpies boss Eddie Howe would prefer to bring in reinforcements with a proven track record in England’s top flight after the success of Kieran Tripper, Dan Burn, Nick Pope and co (Daily Mail).
One of the cleanest strikers of a ball in European football; 22-year-old Szoboszlai scored nine goals and set up 13 more for Leipzig in 2022/23.
Do not be surprised to see Newcastle prioritise a deal for fellow playmaker James Maddison, however, following Leicester City’s final day relegation.
Newcastle also like Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher. Celta Vigo star Gabri Veiga is another to keep an eye on for Magpies fans. A £33 million release clause in Veiga’s contract means he’s available for half the fee Leipzig will demand for Szoboszlai.
