The rapper, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, was born in Patterson, New Jersey, which is also the birthplace of Redman, Joe Budden, and more. As a result of suffering from glaucoma since birth, he lost his left eye as a baby.
In his eight-year-long music career, Fetty Wap has achieved many feats. Some of his most famous songs are KEKE, 679, Leck, Trippin Baby, and more.

Fetty Wap’s net worth
Celebrity Net Worth portal reports, Fetty Wap’s net worth is $1 million in 2023. The 31-year-old rapper has made most of his money in the music business.
The musician’s childhood was laced with struggles due to poverty and homelessness. As a teen, Fetty dropped out of high school. He soon became homeless and had to live with friends for years.
Remembering his homeless years, he said, “I didn’t even get to use no bed. I was lucky to have a carpet.” During this time, the teen also had a son to take care of.
Thankfully for him, things took a turn for the better after his 2015 song Trap Queen became a hit.
It reached platinum status and has 824 million views on YouTube in 2023. He followed up Trap Queen’s success with another single, 679, the same year.
The song ranked number four spot on the US Billboard Hot 100. One of his other tracks, My Way, also charted at number seven, making him among the few rappers to have three songs in the top 20.
Since his rise to fame, Fetty has released several albums and collaborated with the likes of French Montana, Nicki Minaj, and Fifth Harmony.
For those wondering what the unusual moniker means, he explained it in a previous interview with Global Grind. According to CapitalXtra, he explained ‘Fetty’ is a popular slang for money. On the other hand ‘Wap’ is his tribute to his rap idol Gucci Mane who is also known as Guwop.

Rapper sentenced to six years in prison
In a news release, the US Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York revealed Fetty Wap’s sentencing. The release states the 31-year-old was a member of an “Organization that Distributed More than 100 Kilograms of Cocaine, Heroin, Fentanyl, and Crack Cocaine Across Long Island and New Jersey.”
It was District Judge Joanna Seybert who sentenced the musician to six years in prison. His jail time will be followed by five years of supervision post-release.
Fetty Wap was first indicted and arrested in October 2021 on drug trafficking conspiracy charges. However, he got a release after submitting a $500,000 bail.
Furthermore, CNN notes that in 2022, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy of possession and distribution of 500 grams or more of cocaine.
Fetty Wap says he is “truly sorry” after sentencing
Arguing on the case, the prosecutors claimed the rapper used his fame to “glamorize the drug trade.”
“Young people who admire the defendant and are considering selling drugs need to be sent a message that selling drugs is not a glamorous lifestyle and, if they participate in that trade, they will receive lengthy prison sentences,” US attorney of the eastern district of New York, Breon Peace said (per The Guardian).
The Billboard chart topper expressed remorse during the sentencing on Wednesday.
“I hurt my community, people who look up to me,” he said. “My family and myself. I am truly sorry for any pain I caused,” he said.
