‘I’m not surprised’: Redknapp says he understands why Arsenal are now eyeing ‘top young player’

Jamie Redknapp has said that he can understand why Arsenal have set their sights on a transfer for Mason Mount in the summer.

The Sky pundit made his claim in a video posted by Football Daily, as the Chelsea midfielder’s uncertain future was being discussed.

As Mason Mount looks likely to look for a move at the end of the season, Jamie Redknapp seems to agree with Arsenal over keeping a close eye on him.

Jamie Redknapp agrees with Arsenal over Mason Mount transfer interest

The 24-year-old was claimed to be in talks with Mikel Arteta’s side over a switch, according to a report in April.

Mount’s reputation is at an all-time low, as his performances have taken a turn for the worse this season in what has been the most sub-par campaign of his career.

Despite Mason Mount looking far from his best, Jamie Redknapp can see why Arsenal and other clubs would want to sign him.

“He’s a top young player. He’s got tremendous energy. He’s not had the best season for a number of reasons. A lot of Chelsea players, this year, they should have set higher standards. It’s not just Man United, it’s Arsenal, pretty much every top side would want him.”

Mason Mount would be the ideal Granit Xhaka upgrade

Jamie Redknapp is right in saying that Mason Mount would be a brilliant fit at Arsenal.

Especially with Granit Xhaka tipped to leave the Emirates Stadium, the England international could slot into the vacant left-sided attacking midfielder role and thrive.

Mount is a lot more mobile and creative in comparison to Xhaka, and can produce end product in a cohesive side.

The Cobham graduate is also six years younger and has way more upside left to be seen in his game, as opposed to the Swiss midfielder.

As a result, his arrival could be yet another masterstroke from Arsenal.
