The agent of Zenit St Petersburg defender Robert Renan has dismissed reports of interest from Premier League giants Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United.

The Brazilian centre-half hadn’t even made his debut for the Russian champions before Real Madrid were being linked with a £35 million swoop a couple of months ago. That, in truth, has been the story of Robert Renan’s Zenit career thus far.

Barely a week goes by without the former Corinthians starlet – who only moved to St Petersburg at the start of the year – being mentioned as a target for one European giant or another.

It was 90Min, this time, who suggested that Renan had played his way onto the respective radars of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United. Tottenham Hotspur too.

Is Robert Renan really a target for Premier League clubs?

But, according to Luis Fernando Garcia, there is nothing to suggest that his 19-year-old client will be cutting short his time at the RPL holders after just a few months in Zenit’s baby blue shirt.

“Interest in Robert Renan from English clubs is not true,” Garcia tells RIA Novosti

According to Brazilian reporter Jorge Nicola, Renan’s camp held talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers during the summer of 2022. The City Football Group – who represent the likes of Manchester City, LAFC and Girona – were also eyeing up a deal for a rangy, technically-gifted centre-half who was recently handed his first ever call-up for the senior Brazil squad.

Renan’s immediate future, then, appears destined to lie in Russia.

Though Zenit team-mate Andriy Mostovoy would not be surprised to see the likes of Real Madrid make a concerted effort to lure him away from the Gazprom Arena sooner rather than later.

“Judging by his potential, I think that everything (linking him with Real Madrid) is real,” Mostovoy tells Sport24. “Both the attention of Real Madrid and a Brazil call-up at such a young age are not easy to achieve.

“And, in terms of football, everything was clear from the first training session. Renan has a great left foot. I think he is a super buy. Yes, he likes to play backheels in the penalty area!

“For a defender, he’s super technical.”
