Rangers have confirmed the departures of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos amid rumoured Premier League interest in the Everton, Sheffield United and Burnley linked duo.

Kris Commons, the one-time Celtic forward, had a point when he suggested recently that Rangers had made a mistake not cashing in on two of their longest-serving players when their market value was at it’s highest.

Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos, he adds, could have earned Rangers around £30 million following that 2020/21 Scottish Premiership-winning campaign under Steven Gerrard.

Are Kent and Morelos leaving Rangers for the Premier League?

Hindsight, of course, is a wonderful thing.

Alongside Allan McGregor, Filip Helander and Scott Arfield, Rangers confirmed on Tuesday that both Kent and Morelos will be leaving Ibrox when their contracts expire in June.

“Ryan contribution has been fantastic in big matches. In Europe and domestically,” Gers boss Mick Beale tells the BBC. “This season has not gone the way Ryan wanted it to. But he’s been an excellent player for us.”

Kent joined in a £6.5 million deal from Liverpool. Morelos, meanwhile, arrived for a bargain £1 million from HJK Helsinki; becoming the club’s all-time record European goalscorer, overtaking the legendary Ally McCoist in the Ibrox history books.

“For the outlay to what we got back, Alfredo has made an outstanding contribution,” Beale adds. “He was European top goalscorer, player of the year last year. And then (he) got injured, so has had a stop-start season.”

Morelos was spotted wearing an Everton strip during international duty for Colombia back in March. Fanatik believe that there is a chance a player who’s reputation has suffered during a difficult final two seasons could end up alongside compatriot Yerry Mina at Goodison Park, cash-strapped Everton under pressure to bring in cover for Dominic Calvert-Lewin while operating on a heavily FFP-impeded budget.

So Morelos, on a free, could be a smart bit of business.

TEAMtalk, meanwhile, add that Kent – who started his career at Liverpool – is also in Everton’s crosshairs ahead of a potential return to Merseyside. Newly-promoted Burnley and Sheffield United, the report adds, have also held talks with the speedy winger.
