Jurgen Klopp has reacted to the rumours surrounding Liverpool having appointed Jorg Schmadtke as their brand-new sporting director.

The German manager’s reaction was relayed by Fabrizio Romano, as he acknowledged the speculation ahead of his side’s clash against Aston Villa.

As Liverpool fans will be hoping a deal to appoint Jorg Schmadtke is sealed, Jurgen Klopp has had his say on his potential arrival.

What Jurgen Klopp said about Liverpool-linked director Jorg Schmadtke

The 59-year-old has been a sporting director at a trio of Bundesliga clubs such as Hannover 96, VFL Wolfsburg and FC Koln most.

Schmadtke is known to have made a number of intelligent signings for bargain fees, such as Lars Stindl and Wout Weghorst to name a few.

As Jorg Schmadtke has been linked with becoming the next Liverpool sporting director after Julian Ward’s exit, Jurgen Klopp has acknowledged the speculation.

“If it happens, it would not be a ‘Jurgen Klopp’ signing because we are both German or know each other. I’ve known him for a long time. He’s a good guy, a smart guy. Good personality, good humour.”

It looks like the Reds have already sealed the deal to appoint Jorg Schmadtke

Liverpool fans should be buzzing as Jurgen Klopp clearly seems to suggest that the deal to bring in Jorg Schmadtke looks close to completion.

After Julian Ward’s departure after a short spell at the club, many were concerned as to what was transpiring at Anfield behind-the-scenes.

Leaving that aside, it is exciting that Jorg Schmadtke may be joining the Reds, especially ahead of a summer where their recruitment needs to be virtually perfect if they have any ambitions of returning to the top.

Schmadtke’s eye for a bargain may prove handy as the Merseyside-based club need strengthening in multiple areas of the pitch, rather than going hell for leather to sign one superstar.
