A new filter called AI Webtoon which turns you into a Korean comic book character has gone viral on social media this month.
The effect has taken over TikTok and Twitter, where people are obsessed with turning themselves into anime-like cartoons.
It comes following the popular Gender Swap Filter and Old Age Effect which both had people on the internet hooked in April.

AI Webtoon Filter goes viral
The AI Webtoon Filter is a viral effect where you upload a photo of yourself and it turns you into a South Korean comic picture.
It was created by Webtoon, a South Korean platform where you can read thousands of comics across 23 genres including romance, comedy, action, fantasy, and horror.
Webtoons are a type of digital comic that originated in South Korea and are usually meant to be read on smartphones, although their popularity is growing worldwide.
The filter is located on the Webtoon app, which is all written in Korean, but you can still use it wherever you are on the globe.
How to do the AI Webtoon Filter
Here’s how to do it…
- Download the Webtoon Korea app.
- The anime filter will show in an advert at the top.
- Click on this and press the black box.
- Choose one of the anime designs.
- Tick all three circles.
- Press the black box at the bottom again.
- Tap ‘Photo Library’.
- Select a photo of yourself.
- Press ‘Choose’.
- Crop the image and press the black box.
- Wait for your anime photo to generate.
- Click the arrow in the corner to save.
A worldwide version is coming
When you visit the AI Webtoon website, it says a global version of the filter is “coming soon”.
So, you’ll soon be able to easily access the effect worldwide without downloading the Korean app in the future.
