Arsenal have now told Mikel Arteta they will fund moves for both Newcastle target Declan Rice and Moises Caicedo – who is wanted by Liverpool.
Those in the boardroom at the Emirates Stadium have given the Spaniard permission to target the pair of midfield maestros – according to The Times.
It comes after Football Transfers claimed that Newcastle are willing to spend £90m on Declan Rice this summer, whereas Sky Sports believe Liverpool want Moises Caicedo.
What’s the story?
Well, this would be a stunning double deal if Arsenal can somehow pull it off.
The Gunners saw a £70m bid rejected for Caicedo in January by Brighton, who have since convinced the Ecuador international to sign a new contract.

In regards to Rice, the England international is likely to depart West Ham this summer with his current terms set to expire in June 2024.
The Times believe Arsenal are willing to break spending records this summer, and are prepared to splash £200m on the midfield duo – who look set to dominate the Premier League for the next decade.
It is also said that Arsenal’s spending spree could be part-funded by the potential sales of Granit Xhaka, Kieran Tierney, Emile Smith Rowe, Folarin Balogun and Rob Holding.
Arsenal could do special things with Rice & Caicedo
If Arteta and Edu somehow find a way to sign both Rice and Caicedo this summer, it would be an era-defining bit of business for the Gunners.
In that scenario, Arsenal would have a midfield trio of Martin Ødegaard, Rice and Caicedo, who are aged 24, 24 and 21 respectively but are all among the top performers in the Premier League.
With a coach as talented as Arteta working alongside them, there is no reason why the north Londoners cannot do big things with these three in midfield, as well as the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka in attack.
Of course, missing out on the Premier League title this season has been hard to take for some Arsenal fans, but if it pushes the Gunners to make some transformative signings this summer, it could be a blessing in disguise.
