Alex Scott’s £25 million price-tag is a stumbling block for West Ham United with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Wolves and Newcastle also in the race for the Bristol City starlet.

They don’t call him the ‘Guernsey Grealish’ for nothing.

And, with the Championship’s Young Player of the Year award now sitting pretty on his mantelpiece, Scott could soon be handed the opportunity to showcase those Grealish-style skills to a wider audience, shimmying and slaloming his way through Liverpool rather than Luton, Manchester City rather than Middlesbrough.

According to Give Me Sports’ Dean Jones, Tottenham, Wolves, Brighton, Brentford and Crystal Palace have all made their interest known. As have Everton, Leicester, Newcastle United and the aforementioned West Ham.

Liverpool too, per the Daily Mail. It would almost be quicker to just say ‘half of the Premier League’ is keen on a 19-year-old who’s tally of two goals and five assists for 2022/23 does not come close to explaining his influence on this Bristol City side.

Who will win the race for Bristol City starlet Alex Scott?

There’s a reason why Robins boss Nigel Pearson is determined to extract full value from his prized asset.

“It wouldn’t surprise me that clubs are interested in him,” Pearson begins. “(It) will have to be a really big bid to get him.

“He has to be more than £25 million. He shouldn’t go for less than that. Since he made his debut, he’s played upmost of 80 games for us. Some people talk about playing in a second season, you can get a drop-off. But I don’t think we have seen that at all.

“There’s no doubt in my mind we’ll have to deal with bids this summer. I think that will happen.”

According to the Daily Mail, the Bristol City bosses appear to share Pearson’s assessment. The Robins want £25 million at least, and that – for the time being – is a fee West Ham are allegedly ‘reluctant’ to stump up for a teenager with just two seasons of senior football under his belt.

Scott, meanwhile, is a self-confessed Spurs supporter (The Guardian). Should Tottenham step up their own interest – and a young, creative, ball-carrying central midfielder certainly has a place at Spurs – then this may be an opportunity simply too good for Scott to turn down.
