Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Real Madrid left-back Ferland Mendy in the summer transfer window.

The Mirror have reported that Mendy’s agents are likely to seek talks with Tottenham over a potential transfer in the summer of 2023.

Madrid, who won the La Liga title and the UEFA Champions League last season, have told Mendy’s representatives that the left-back will not be offered a new deal, and that the France international is free to leave.

Los Blancos are ready to sell the 27-year-old for £17.5 million, with the Frenchman looking for a three-year contract, according to the report.

Summer transfer to Spurs unlikely

In our view, Ferland Mendy is unlikely to join Tottenham Hotspur from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Yes, the agents of the former Lyon star could hold talks with Spurs, but that does not mean that a transfer will happen.

Since move to Madrid in 2019, Mendy is used to challenging for top honours and winning major trophies on a regular basis.

During his time at the Santiago Bernabeu so far, the left-back – who is “the Kylian Mbappe of the left-back role” and is “exciting going forward and very strong at the back” by experienced agent Yvan Le Mee in France Football in June 2019 – has won the La Liga title twice, the UEFA Champions League once and the Copa del Rey on one occasion.

And Madrid could become champions of Europe again this campaign.

Tottenham are not even going to play in the UEFA Champions League next season and are not going to challenge for the Premier League title.
