Nottingham Forest are watching Sydney van Hooijdonk but his agent has indicated that the Eredivisie hitman is planning for a future in Serie A rather than the Premier League.
With only three league games remaining, Van Hooijdonk is very well-placed to cap an outstanding individual campaign with the Dutch top-flight’s Golden Boot award. No one has scored more than his 16 goals on loan at Heerenveen.
But will Sydney follow in the footsteps of his father?

Pierre van Hooijdonk scored goals at a prolific rate during two seasons at Nottingham Forest in the late-1990s, even if his time at the City Ground was, let’s say, tainted by the way things ended.
According to The Athletic, Forest are keeping tabs on Van Hooijdonk Jr now. Though the Heerenveen loanee may opt to fight for his place at parent club Bologna instead.
Nottingham Forest like Sydney van Hooijdonk?
“(The phone) is ringing, yes,” agent Marco de Marchi tells Tuttomercatoweb when quizzed about the interest in the 6ft 3ins poacher.
“Sydney is at Bologna, and I imagine he wants to continue on the path. What is certain is that he still has two years on his contract. The club will decide which path to take; whether to continue together or whether to sell him.
“But he’s doing great things. Now, he’s on 16 goals with only one penalty. In fact, he’s getting the extraordinary results he hoped for.”
Nottingham Forest gave their survival hopes an almighty boost on a goal-filled Monday which almost screamed ‘prime Barclays’. A 4-2 triumph over bottom-of-the-table Southampton means Steve Cooper’s side are now 16th. Three points above the bottom three with a trio of matchdays remaining.
A tally of 34 goals in just 35 games, however, is an indication as to why Forest may be looking at Van Hooijdonk ahead of the summer transfer window.
Only Brennan Johnson and Taiwo Awoniyi have scored more than six times in the league this term.
