Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are competing with Pep Guadioala’s Manchester City for Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
Newcastle United linked with Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic
Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has reported that Kovacic is “very likely” to leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window.
Newcastle and Manchester City are the two Premier League clubs who are keen on the former Real Madrid star.
Galetti has added that Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the situation of £150,000-a-week (SalarySport) Croatia international midfielder.
Quite a coup if Newcastle sign Kovacic
In our view, if Newcastle United are able to sign Mateo Kovacic in the summer transfer window, then it would be quite a coup for them.
Just look at the clubs who are in for the former Real Madrid star.

Manchester City regularly win the Premier League title, PSG dominate Ligue 1 and Bayern Munich are the biggest club in Germany.
And all of them compete for the UEFA Champions League.
So, for Newcastle to potentially convince Kovacic to move to St. James’ Park would be something.
We do not think that the Croatian would find a move to Newcastle too appealing even with UEFA Champions League football next season, but you never know.
