A claim has been made that a failure to qualify for the Champions League could lead to Julian Nagelsmann turning down the Tottenham Hotspur manager job.

A report on Friday emerged about the Bayern Munich boss having held a second round of talks with Spurs over the vacancy in N17.

While the meeting was reportedly positive, Julian Nagelsmann could now reject the Tottenham Hotspur manager role after all.

Nagelsmann could snub Tottenham manager job due to lack of Champions League

The German mastermind has competed in Europe’s elite competition several times, most notably leading RB Leipzig to a semi-final place during the 2019/2020 season.

Branded as a ‘supercoach’ by Eurosport, a tactician of Nagelsmann’s ilk is expected to at least showcase his talents on the biggest stage of them all in club football, season after season.

However, with Tottenham finding new ways to surrender top four, Julian Nagelsmann could turn down the chance to become their next manager.

“It’s looking unlikely that they’re going to get top four, so that’s a big negative as far as they’re concerned in that they won’t be able to offer him Champions League football”, Sky journalist Dharmesh Sheth told GiveMeSport.

Sheth went on to reassure Tottenham fans about the club’s likelihood of appointing Nagelsmann as their manager, saying, “But on the flip side, when they show players and managers around the stadium and the training ground, they can’t help but be impressed.”

“If they can impress Nagelsmann enough and give him plenty of reassurances about recruitment in the summer, it could be a realistic option for Tottenham to try and get Nagelsmann.”

A fair point has certainly been made and in a market where a number of elite clubs would have been in need of a coach, Spurs should perhaps have been worried.

But currently, Tottenham are one of the select few top sides that require a new manager, which is why Julian Nagelsmann may have to drop the pride and take the job.

Whichever way one presents it, fairly or unfairly, the fact of the matter is that Nagelsmann was sacked by Bayern.

To kickstart his redemption arc, the Bundesliga-winning boss must start life elsewhere and swiftly.
