Simon Grayson has said that new Leeds United head coach Sam Allardyce should drop Illan Meslier for the Premier League game against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.

The former Leeds head coach has said on the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast that Meslier is making too many mistakes for the team at the moment.

Grayson, now in charge of Bengaluru FC in the Indian Super League, believes that Allardyce needs to take the 23-year-old out of the Leeds team this weekend.

Leeds will take on defending champions Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

While the West Yorkshire club are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season, City could win the league title yet again this season.

Simon Grayson wants Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier dropped against Manchester City

Grayson said, as transcribed by TBR: “Someone asked me what I would do if I was going back, I would drop the goalkeeper straight away.

“He’s young, he’s vulnerable and he’s making too many mistakes.

“It might not be everybody’s cup of tea, but that’s what I would do because he’s costing the team too many points.”

HITC Verdict: One major problem

We do think that Illan Meslier has not been great for Leeds United in recent games.

The French goalkeeper is making too many mistakes at the moment, and that is costing the Whites.

It would make sense for Allardyce, who was appointed the new Leeds head coach only this week, to take Meslier out of the team.

The problem is who ‘Big Sam’ could replace the Frenchman with.

Kristoffer Klaesson is only 21, while Joel Robles is 32 and has not played a single Premier League match for Leeds this season.
