A fresh claim has surfaced about Wolves being interested in wrapping up a transfer worth £25 million for Leeds United target Viktor Gyokeres.

Sam Allardyce’s side have been linked with signing the Coventry City striker for months on end, with a report last Wednesday claiming that they scouted him during the previous weekend.

However, it seems like Leeds United’s efforts to sign Viktor Gyokeres could amount to nothing with Wolves having their sights set on completing a transfer for him ahead of next season.

Wolves aiming to beat Leeds to Gyokeres transfer

The Swedish striker has had a phenomenal campaign in the Championship, with 21 goals and 10 assists to his name.

Branded as a ‘goal machine’ by the Athletic, the 24-year-old is one of the most highly-acclaimed goalscorers in the English top-flight currently.

While Leeds had seemingly made Viktor Gyokeres their transfer priority, talkSPORT have reported that Wolves are planning to sign him in the summer window.

Julen Lopetegui’s men are believed to be focused on bolstering their attacking department in preparation for the following campaign.

However, Coventry are demanding a £25 million fee to sell their prolific marksman in the summer.

HITC View: Leeds unlikely to have any chance of winning this race

Considering Viktor Gyokeres is unlikely to want to play in the Championship next season, Wolves are automatically in the lead in the transfer race between themselves and Leeds for his signature.

Whole Sam Allardyce is an expert relegation firefighter, the prospect of saving the Whites seems like mission impossible for even him with the remaining four difficult fixtures set to decide his side’s fate.

On the other hand, Wolves are three points away from the cushty 40-point mark.

Unless Allardyce and Co. manage to survive at the end of the season and agree to pay the £25 million fee to sign Gyokeres, it is impossible to see how they will be able to sign him.
