Paul Merson has predicted that Kaoru Mitoma will not leave Brighton and Hove Albion amid reported interest from Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.
The former Arsenal star has written in SportsKeeda that he cannot see any club paying “top dollar” for Mitoma in the summer transfer window.
The Sky Sports pundit believes that the 25-year-old Japan international winger will stay at Brighton for next season at least.
CM reported in February 2023 that Arsenal want to sign the winger in the summer transfer window.
The Telegraph claimed in April that Newcastle want to bring the Japanese star to St. James’ Park for next season and beyond.
Paul Merson on Arsenal and Newcastle target Kaoru Mitoma
Merson wrote: “Alexis Mac Allister is a player who has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks.
“I can’t see the Argentine midfielder staying at Brighton beyond the current season, but I still feel Kaoru Mitoma could remain at the Amex Stadium for another year, at least.
“Don’t get me wrong, he’s a fantastic player and is very nice to watch, but I still can’t see teams paying top dollar for him. Not yet, at least.”

HITC Verdict: Summer transfer could happen
In our view, Arsenal or Newcastle United could be able to sign Kaoru Mitoma from Premier League rivals Brighton and Hove Albion.
Every player has his price, and if Arsenal or Newcastle make a good offer, then they could be able to sway Brighton, especially as it will be the end of the season.
The winger himself could be tempted to move to an Arsenal team who could win the Premier League title or to a Newcastle side who could end up in the UEFA Champions League next season.
