Jamie Carragher picks current Liverpool player in all-time PL winners’ XI

Jamie Carragher has picked Liverpool hero Alisson Becker in an all-time XI full of players from Premier League winning teams in history.

The Brazilian international is lauded as the best goalkeeper in world football, especially after producing one of the greatest individual seasons by a No.1 we have ever seen during the 2021/2022 campaign.

While Jamie Carragher could have picked the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk or Trent Alexander-Arnold to name a few, he chose Alisson in his all-time Premier League winners’ XI.

First things first, not every Premier League winning side was eligible for selection but just teams considered as some of the greatest.

Secondly, only one player from each team was allowed to be selected.

Despite Jamie Carragher having a number of Liverpool players to pick from as the 2019/2020 Premier League winning side was packed with all-time greats, he decided to select Alisson.

“I went for Alisson. When it came to the Liverpool one, it was obviously the goalkeeper, [Virgil] Van Dijk or [Mohamed] Salah. I was just trying to move my players around and I went for Alisson. I think he can go against any goalkeeper in Premier League history”, he said on the Overlap YouTube channel.

Some may scoff at the Reds legend’s pick, as the likes of Peter Schmeichel, Petr Cech, Edwin van der Sar, David De Gea and perhaps David Seaman are considered some of the very best goalkeepers in Premier League history.

However, Jamie Carragher is right in emphasising that Liverpool icon Alisson is a match for any of those names, as his place is merited in an all-time Premier League winners’ XI.

The former Roma fan favourite is not only an elite shotstopper but is also proficient with the ball at his feet and is known to be a stupendous sweeper-keeper.

While some other goalkeepers to have graced the Premier League may have won more silverware or might even have had a bigger impact, Alisson has a shout for being the most well-rounded of them all.
