It has been reported that Burnley are interested in signing Georges Mikautadze during the summer transfer window.

The Metz No.9 is having an impressive campaign in Ligue 2, with 20 goals and seven assists to his name.

As Vincent Kompany’s Burnley prepare for life in the Premier League, one of the transfer targets piquing their interest is Georges Mikautadze.

The 22-year-old is the top scorer in the second tier of French football, leading the charts by four goals this campaign.

While Vincent Kompany seems to favour Ashley Barnes as his go-to striker for now, it is telling that he has scored a mere five goals in the Championship.

As Burnley are in serious need of an upgrade, Foot 365 journalist Ignazio Genuardi has claimed that Georges Mikautadze has been shortlisted by Burnley as one of their transfer targets.

In addition, it has been emphasised that Vincent Kompany in particular has been impressed by the Georgian goalscorer’s profile and would like to sign him ahead of the following season.

HITC View: Impressive to see Burnley already preparing for next season

It seems like the Clarets have no intention to simply just survive in the Premier League and just enjoy the ride.

Making smart signings in the summer while trusting in Vincent Kompany’s possession-based philosophy, the club are clearly trying to hit heights they have never even reached in the past.

As Burnley are set to return to the English top-flight next season, it is nice to see that Georges Mikautadze has already been identified as a transfer target to further bolster the side.

Additionally, it is also refreshing to see that Vincent Kompany is clearly involved in the recruitment strategy, as he is believed to be an admirer of his.

In this day and age where sporting directors and the recruitment staff handle a bulk of the thinking that goes behind signing players, the manager’s involvement is a pleasant surprise.

From the looks of it, the one thing Burnley do not seem to lack is drive.
