Michael Owen has stated that ‘it drives me insane’ when people suggest that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool should ‘rip things up’ ahead of the summer transfer window.
The former Liverpool striker used Tottenham Hotspur as an example and how it’s ‘virtually impossible’ for teams to win everything or be successful, like the Reds have done in recent years.
Unlike both Manchester clubs, Tottenham and Arsenal, those on Merseyside have won it all in recent years.

That included that famous night in Madrid for Liverpool, which saw them beat Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham to become champions of Europe.
Since then, two more domestic trophies have followed suit, including winning near-on everything last season, only for Manchester City to pip them towards the end and Real Madrid to beat them in the Champions League final.
But, after a season of struggle, there has been talk about Liverpool needing a refresh, but Michael Owen was having none of it, as he told The Final Word on Premier League Productions (01/05/23 at 11:20 pm).
“I have been screaming at the television and I have been looking at social media for so long now,” said Owen. “I have been looking at social media for so long now and it drives me insane.
“This team months ago. They had won the League Cup. They won the FA Cup. They were the better team in the Champions League. And they had won the league with about 20 minutes to go on the last day of the season. They were minutes, and one or two games, away from being one of the most decorated team of all time, then a few months later, just because there have been a few bad performances and it has been a rocky season ‘rip everything up’.
“What do you want to rip up here? Go and get another goalkeeper? They have got the best goalkeeper in the world. They have got the best centre-half in the world. They have two of the best fullbacks in the world – this club has the manager, the players, the board, the fans and everything. We have seen sustained success for years and years.
“Do you know how long it takes to get into a position like that?! It’s virtually possible. Look at Tottenham. Look at Manchester United. Look at all these clubs trying to get where Liverpool have been for the last ten years.”

IT WON’T BE BELLINGHAM…
Well, regardless of whether Liverpool bring in ten players in the summer, or just a few, one thing is for sure, a big-name midfielder is needed.
But it seems as though it’s not going to be Jude Bellingham – it has been explained why Liverpool have pulled out of the race for the Real Madrid-bound teenager
In truth, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the club went for a few low-key names, rather than the big superstars because it’s what worked last time, so why can’t it happen again?!
