Tottenham Hotspur continue to eye James Ward-Prowse after scouting the Southampton midfielder on Sunday afternoon.

That is according to a report from the Daily Mail, who claim that Spurs watched Ward-Prowse against Newcastle United.

Ward-Prowse sadly lost again as Southampton fell to a 3-1 defeat away at St James’ Park.

Southampton are edging ever closer to relegation and Ward-Prowse is likely to be in demand.

The report claims that Newcastle and Tottenham are both waiting to find out what kind of fee Southampton would want for Ward-Prowse.

The 28-year-old is allegedly not being eyed up by the real elite of the Premier League.

Newcastle and Spurs appreciate Ward-Prowse though given his outstanding ability from set pieces.

Ward-Prowse has given great service to Southampton, racking up more than 400 appearances for the club.

There will be dreams of Ward-Prowse being a one-club man but they could hardly begrudge him a Premier League return if Southampton do gown.

Mauricio Pochettino set James Ward-Prowse on his way to stardom

Ward-Prowse has become famous for his set-piece ability.

The midfielder is a threat to score free kicks from pretty much any angle or distance at this point.

Comparisons to David Beckham have been made for that reason with Ward-Prowse just so dangerous from set plays.

It hasn’t always been this way though and former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino actually set Ward-Prowse on his way.

Speaking to The Athletic in 2019, Ward-Prowse admitted that Pochettino put him on set pieces at Southampton.

Ward-Prowse struggled with that role at first and received stick from the likes of Rickie Lambert, Jose Fonte and Dejan Lovren.

Ward-Prowse has worked hard at his craft and is now a wanted man off the back of his set-piece wizardry.

Pochettino won’t be the new Tottenham manager but Spurs could still benefit from his coaching by moving for Ward-Prowse.
