Ally McCoist says Sam Allardyce has a ‘very good history’ in keeping teams in the Premier League ahead of rumours that he is about to become Leeds United’s next manager.
The former Scotland striker added that Leeds United are making the correct call to sack Javi Gracia, but he ‘isn’t sure’ if Sam Allardyce would find the job attractive.
Over the weekend, Leeds were thrashed 4-1 by relegation rivals Bournemouth, who are now on 39 points and are all but safe.

As the Leeds players went to the away end after the end of the game, there were chants of ‘you’re not fit to wear the shirt’. They are hovering above the relegation zone ahead of their dreaded clash against Manchester City.
And now, those in the Elland Road boardroom, for the second time this season, are to sack their manager, with former England boss, Allardyce, a ‘leading contender’.
There is never a dull day in the Premier League, with McCoist reacting to these rumours, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (02/05/23 at 6:35 am).
“Well, Sam’s got a very good history in that area of the league and doing jobs of keeping clubs up,” said McCoist.
“Are they right to do it? (to sack Gracia). You know something, they might be. They are in a free-for-all. They are shipping all sorts of goals, by the way. Ridiculous.
“I just think, particularly at home, I saw them against Leicester. You could argue that they were lucky to get a point there. I know Bamford should have scored late on. But it would be no surprise to me if they do make a change. It would be a heck of a gamble.
On if Leeds job would be attractive to Allardyce: “I’m not sure,” added McCoist. “The first thing Sam would do is look at the squad and look at the fixtures. Anybody coming in. Do you think you can get a tune out of that squad to get enough points looking at those fixtures? It’s a big ask.”

FROM BIELSA TO ALLARDYCE
When Leeds got promoted, their fans were back in dreamland, Marcelo Bielsa had helped pick them back up from the dark days of England’s lower leagues.
The team, the club, the squad and the fanbase had never been so close together.
Yet, fast forward to the present and all of that is unraveling. With Leeds set to go from the very popular Bielsa to the marmite-like figure Allardyce in the space of 14 months. Well done the Leeds United board!
