Lamine Gueye admits he hopes to follow ‘in the footsteps’ of Liverpool icon Sadio Mane with Premier League leaders Arsenal his dream destination.
Quick, tricky and blessed with an eye for goal; there are certainly shades of the former Anfield favourite in 19-year-old Gueye.
The teenager, who currently plies trade for Spanish second-tier outfit Real Oviedo, idolises Mane and shares many of the attributes that made Senegal’s favourite son one of the finest forwards anywhere in world football during a trophy-laden stint under Jurgen Klopp.

“I see a lot of Sadio Mane in myself,” Gueye tells Wiw Sport.
“I’m quick, good at one-on-ones and I’m able to score goals. I’m also technically well-honed. I am a very versatile forward, two-footed.
“I am able to play as a centre-forward and on the flanks. But I feel best as a left winger.”
Lamine Gueye dreams of Arsenal move
Now at Bayern Munich, Mane played the best football of his career on Merseyside. Gueye hopes to emulate his impact on English soil; Arsenal the dream destination for a man who hopes to force his way into the Senegal squad for the U20 World Cup next month.
“I aim very high,” Gueye adds. “I want to follow in Sadio Mane’s footsteps by playing for big European club. Especially in the English Premier League, since my favourite team is Arsenal.
“And of course, I dream of wearing the jersey of the National Team of Senegal. I dream of playing at the U20 World Cup. I had contact with coach Malick Daf (Senegal youth coach). He assured me that it depended on my performance, but he is following me closely.”
Gueye is not the only exciting young winger hoping to book his seat on the plane to Indonesia in May. Alejandro Garnacho, according to Dobre Amarilla, is determined to feature in the blue-and-white of Argentina.
That is despite the fact that, if he jets out to South East Asia in a few weeks’ time, he is likely to miss the first ever Manchester Derby FA Cup final between United and City at Wembley on June 3rd.
