Tottenham Hotspur remain in search of a new permanent manager in wake of Antonio Conte’s sacking in March.

Plenty of names have been linked with the Spurs reins, including Vincent Kompany.

Earlier this month, The Sun reported that Tottenham had made the ‘unbelievable‘ manager their No. 1 candidate.

However, a new report from the same outlet appears to have dealt a blow to Spurs in their pursuit of Kompany.

The Burnley manager has reportedly told his staff that he’s looking to stay put this summer.

Kompany ‘has informed his coaching team that he wants to see the job through’ at Turf Moor, said the report.

In addition, the Clarets have reportedly promised to back the 37-year-old in the summer transfer window.

Our view

If true, this would be a big blow for Spurs in pursuit of one of the best up-and-coming managers in England.

At the same time, it’s not surprising.

Kompany has already got Burnley back into the top flight with the team he has built.

It’s very much the logical option for him to stay put and see what he can do in the Premier League.

In addition, you have to think that Spurs and Burnley will have wildly differing expectations next season.

For the Clarets, surviving relegation will likely be the bottom line in their first campaign back.

Meanwhile, Tottenham will be eager for top four and silverware, or at least a good cup run.

After the season they’ve had, the need for success – or at least instant improvement – is higher than ever.

Kompany will be under intense pressure at Spurs, and at this stage in his career, he’s better off without.
