Jermain Defoe has raved about Liverpool forward Diogo Jota for his performance against Nottingham Forest at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker has said on Match of the Day on BBC One that Jota was fantastic for Liverpool in their win against Forest.

Jurgen Klopp’s side got the better of Forest 3-2 at home in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Jota scored two of the goals.

Although the 26-year-old missed a good chance to score in the first half, the Portugal international forward found the back of the net twice after the break.

Jota has made nine starts and six substitute appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool so far this season.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers forward has scored four goals and given four assists in those games.

Defoe said about Jota: “I mean, he is a player I have always admired, to be honest.

“During his time at Wolves, he scored a lot of goals. Liverpool have missed him. He is a brilliant player.”

The BBC Sport pundit added: “He was fantastic today. Really sharp, really impressed.”

HITC Verdict: Important player for Liverpool

In our view, Diogo Jota is one of the best and most important players for Liverpool.

And the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners did miss the forward when he was injured.

Now that Jota is getting back to his best, we believe that he could play a big role for the Reds in the final weeks of the season.

True, Liverpool are facing an uphill battle to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season, but if Jota continues to bang in the goals and the Reds continue to win, then you just never know.
