Tottenham Hotspur are not going to be able to sign Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur stance on Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea

The Telegraph have reported that Tottenham are on the hunt for a goalkeeper as a long-term successor to Hugo Lloris.

De Gea is out of contract at Manchester United at the end of the season.

So, unless the Spain international goalkeeper accepts a new offer from United, he will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season as a free agent.

The report has claimed that Tottenham will not be able to pay De Gea’s weekly salary of £300,000 per week.

“For the last four months, De Gea has been allowed to speak to other clubs over a pre-contract but there are no slots for goalkeepers at the top European teams,” states the report in The Telegraph.

“Tottenham are looking at goalkeepers as a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris but they would not spend as heavily as De Gea’s wage expectations.”

HITC Verdict: Summer transfer to Spurs unlikely

In our view, David de Gea is not going to leave Manchester United for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window.

Even if Spurs showed concrete interest in the former Atletico Madrid star, we do not think that he would move to the North London club.

After all, De Gea is playing for arguably the biggest club in England at the moment.

And the 32-year-old may not be keen on joining a Spurs team who may not even end up in the Premier League top four this season and are unlikely to challenge for the title anytime soon.

If De Gea does not find a top club in Europe, then we think that the Spaniard could put to paper on a new deal with United even if that be on a lower salary.
