Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with Arne Slot in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, the Independent reported that Spurs were trying to assess whether he was keen on the job.

More recently, Voetbal International suggested that Slot has a ‘good chance’ of getting the Tottenham role.

Now, Dutch journalist Wilfred Genee has claimed that Spurs are willing to spend big to land the 44-year-old.

He told Veronica Offside, relayed by Voetbal Zone and Sport Witness, that Slot will leave Feyenoord after this season.

Conflicting reports have claimed that the Dutchman isn’t planning to leave the club in the summer.

Genee not only dismissed this suggestion, but also claimed Tottenham are ready to offer a better deal than what Leeds United offered him earlier this year.

“I heard from people last week that he is not staying anyway,” said Genee.

“He does not want to run the risk that things can go very badly in the Champions League and that he will no longer be in the picture with the big clubs.

“He wants to be financially independent as soon as possible. It’s easier at a big club.

“He wanted to go to Leeds. They wanted to pay €4m (£3.5m) and he found that attractive.

“Spurs want to pay even more.”

Previous reports have suggested Tottenham would have to pay in excess of €5m (£4.4m) to land Slot.

‘A wonderful attacking machine’

Slot is an incredibly talented young manager who looks ready for a step up in his career.

His credentials and style of play would certainly tick a lot of boxes for Tottenham.

Alasdair Gold recently described Slot’s philosophy as a “Pochettino in the making”.

Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan also provided a glowing endorsement of the 44-year-old.

He described Slot as a “maniac” who plays “ultra-attacking” football, and likened him to Pep Guardiola.

“The best thing about Arne Slot is that he is probably the best attacking coach I have seen in the last 35-40 years at Feyenoord,” he told talkSPORT.

“He is very similar to Pep Guardiola, his ideas are very similar, he is a massive fan of Pep and he plays the same time.

“He goes ultra-attacking, he is almost like a maniac.

“Not on the touchline but it is fantastic to see how he has turned an average side into a wonderful attacking machine.”
