Newcastle United have been reportedly scouting Torino defender Perr Schuurs for as long as two months, with the Magpies linked with the centre-back.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Eddie Howe’s side are monitoring the Dutch talent ahead of the summer transfer window, with the Toon sending scouts to watch Schuurs for the last two months in Serie A with Torino.

Gianluca Di Marzio recently reported that Newcastle were ready to launch a bid for the former Ajax star, with Tuttosport adding that Torino will be open to selling Schuurs this summer if they received an offer of €50m (£44m) for the 23-year-old.

Indeed, with Newcastle keen to add a centre-back to partner Sven Botman for next season, Schuurs could be an ideal player for the former LOSC Lille superstar. And according to Romano, the Toon have been watching the defender for the best part of two months.

The Italian journalist said on Newcastle’s interest in Schuurs: “Despite rumours, I’m not aware of bids or concrete talks with Newcastle and Perr Schuurs at this stage. Many clubs are following the talented Torino centre-back; Newcastle sent their scouts in February and March, Inter did the same.”

Moving to Torino from a club as big as Ajax was always going to be a risk for Schuurs, yet the defender has made the decision work and then some, with the Dutchman now one of the most in-demand centre-backs in Europe, much to Newcastle’s dismay.

The Magpies will be keen to move for Schuurs having scouted the defender for the last two months, and whilst interest from rival clubs is high, Newcastle know they have the pull and the finances to make a deal possible this summer at the right price.
