Tim Sherwood has brutally stated that he is ‘thankful’ that he never got to manage a player like Davinson Sanchez given his most-recent performance for Tottenham Hotspur where he got booed by his own fans.

The 26-year-old came on as a first-half substitute for the injured Clement Lenglet, where he was booed by the supporters, before getting the same treatment when he was taken off after the hour mark.

By then, the damage was done because Davinson Sanchez was at fault for two Tottenham goals, including inadvertently passing the ball to Dominic Solanke to put the relegation-threatened Cherries into the lead.

When the former Ajax man was taken off, he looked like a dejected figure on the bench, as he perhaps experienced his toughest-ever afternoon as a footballer – Hugo Lloris certainly wasn’t happy with the reaction.

Getting booed and abused by the opposition is one thing, but for your own supporters to verbally maul you like that is a different pill to swallow altogether.

This is one Sanchez will find very hard to digest, with Tim Sherwood sharing his thoughts on the matter, as he told Premier League Productions (16/04/23 at 9:50 pm).

“The defending has been like this all season,” said Sherwood. “It’s amazing they are still in the position where they are in the league. They shoot themselves in the foot time and time again.

“Sanchez here, it’s a lack of concentration that. It’s just rolled under his feet. Porro dribbling out in the wrong area. I think Lloris even comes rushing out. He makes his mind up.

“You can understand it’s a lack of confidence because they booed him when he come onto the pitch and they booed him when he got substituted. It’s not great for the boy, but you understand the fans’ frustration.

“Sanchez’s positioning (for Solanke’s goal). He’s trying to get back. He is doing his best, then he just toes it into the path of Solanke and he finishes it brilliantly.

“But I feel for the lad. I really do. He’s a good guy apparently. I never worked with him, thankfully. But (you have those days).”

HAS SANCHEZ PLAYED HIS LAST GAME FOR SPURS?

It wouldn’t be a surprise if this is the end of the road for the Colombian star and he never dons the colours of Tottenham again.

Fans have every right to vent their frustration and anger, especially when a player like Sanchez just hasn’t lived up to the hype or the big-money fee he was purchased for.

But, it also needs to be remembered that there are far bigger problems at Tottenham than Sanchez and he shouldn’t be used as a scapegoat here.
