Arsenal are still expected to sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice despite interest in a hijack from Newcastle United.

That’s according to a new report from talkSPORT, who claim that Newcastle are interested in entering the race for Rice.

It’s suggested that Newcastle could spend big this summer, especially if they qualify for the Champions League.

Rice is one name Eddie Howe and co would like to sign, but a move to Newcastle doesn’t seem likely as things stand.

The report claims that Arsenal are still the most likely destination for Rice should he leave West Ham this summer.

The time has come for Rice to move on from West Ham and take the next step in his career.

Rice is allegedly ‘excited’ by the prospect of joining Arsenal and their interest ‘is the most advanced’ in the race.

West Ham want £100million though, meaning Arsenal – or Newcastle with a hijack attempt – will have to spend big money.

Newcastle United interest in Declan Rice no surprise

The Magpies will be linked with big names this summer but the links to Rice do make some sense.

Eddie Howe hailed Rice as a ‘top quality player’ earlier this season having been impressed with his West Ham displays.

Newcastle are certainly in the market for another midfielder or two this summer and Rice would fit the bill.

Howe tends to like players with Premier League experience, something Rice has plenty of after shining for West Ham.

Arsenal will have major pulling power this summer though, especially if they can get over the line and win the Premier League title.

It’s also worth noting that Rice is a London boy and staying in the capital by trading West Ham for Arsenal may well appeal.

Staying in London could be a priority for Rice over heading to the North East, but Newcastle will surely do all they can to try and somehow win this transfer race.
