Why did Sadio Mane punch Leroy Sane? That is the question on the lips of every Bayern Munich fan as well as neutral supporters.

The Senegal international and the Germany international are said to have clashed after Bayern Munich’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Quarter-Final on Tuesday.

Sane and Mane could be seen arguing on the pitch at the Etihad Stadium after the latter was substituted onto the field by Thomas Tuchel in the 69th minute.

Bayern Munich are yet to comment on the alleged incident.

So, why did Mane punch Sane? Let’s take a look…

Why did Mane punch Sane?

Well – according to BILD in Germany – Sane was complaining about Mane throughout the clash against Manchester City, giving the Bayern Munich No.17 an earful as Pep Guardiola’s side ran riot.

It is said that Mane confronted Sane about his behaviour towards him in the dressing room after full-time and punched the German winger on the lip.

BILD believe the trigger point came in the 83rd minute when Sane played a misplaced pass to Mane, who had already sprinted off to attack the space and consequently ran away from the ball.

You can see footage of that moment below.

Sky Germany add that the 27-year-old’s lip was bleeding after the alleged incident, and other Bayern Munich players had to separate the pair inside the Etihad Stadium.

Sky Germany also claim that Mane did not board the team bus once Tuchel’s side landed back in Munich, with the Senegalese forward picked up privately while Sane travelled back alongside his teammates.

Tuchel already had enough on his plate after SC Freiburg knocked Bayern Munich out of the DFB-Pokal, and he must now deal with a situation between two of his best attackers while also trying to reverse a 3-0 deficit in the second leg.

Things could hardly have gone worse for the Bavarians in Manchester on Tuesday – to say the least.

Be sure to keep an eye on the situation, as it will be very interesting to see what action Bayern Munich take, if any.
