FC Barcelona are reportedly more intent on signing Ilkay Gundogan ‘more than ever’ after the midfielder’s latest performance for Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.

According to Sport, the Catalan giants were greatly impressed with what they saw from the 32-year-old against Bayern Munich this week as City obliterated the German side 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium, with Gundogan flourishing alongside Kevin De Bruyne in an attacking-midfield pivot.

Barcelona have long been linked with a move with Gundogan this year amid growing concerns that the midfielder will leave City at the end of this season when his contract expires, with a move to La Liga growing by the day for the former Borussia Dortmund star.

Earning a reported £165,000-a-week, the German international could soon become one of the highest-paid players at Barcelona should the midfielder make the move to the Camp Nou, and with Xavi Hernandez and company impressed with what they saw on Tuesday, a deal could begin to take shape.

Indeed, Barcelona are looking to make free-agent signings this summer amid their growing financial problem, and with Gundogan once again stealing the show for City and controlling the strings, the midfielder could be an excellent addition for the Catalan side.

Moreover, with no transfer fee to pay, it’s no real surprise that Barcelona are more interested than ever to sign Gundogan, who could be a coup of a deal this summer if the midfielder is to call time on his incredible career in Manchester.

Gundogan’s performances are bound to attract interest beyond Barcelona, and as such, Xavi should be working to make a contract offer for the midfielder in the coming weeks, with the City captain looking likely to leave the Premier League this summer.

The midfielder is in the prime of his career and could be ready for one last payday to wrap up his incredible story, and Barcelona would be a fairytale ending for Gundogan, though the Catalan side must first make a move to sign the 32-year-old.
