Atalanta could reportedly make a move to sign West Ham’s Gianluca Scamacca if one of Duvan Zapata or Rasmus Hojlund were to leave this summer, with Everton and Arsenal keeping tabs on the strikers.

According to Il Giorno, the Serie A side anticipates one of their centre-forwards to leave the club this summer, with Sean Dyche chasing a deal for Zapata whilst Arsenal have recently been linked with a move for Hojlund, with Atalanta keen to sign Scamacca as a replacement for either player.

The Italian international was signed last summer for £36m, yet despite plenty of hype and a big reputation, Scamacca has fallen into a similar trap many West Ham strikers have fallen into, with the former Sassuolo man now tipped to return to Serie A after just one year in the Premier League.

With Holjund and Zapata both wanted by Arsenal and Everton respectively, there’s a good chance that Atalanta will have the opportunity to sign Scamacca this summer, with a loan deal to Bergamo a deal that could potentially benefit all parties.

Indeed, Scamacca has hardly impressed since signing for West Ham last summer, with the attacker seemingly keen on a return back to Italy. And with Atalanta one of the best-run clubs in the entire country, the 24-year-old could find his feet again in Bergamo under Gian Piero Gasperini.

As for the Irons, losing a player they made a serious investment in due to a Premier League rival making a move will be a bitter pill to swallow. However, given how underwhelming Scamacca has been this season, allowing the striker to leave could be for the best this summer.

Scamacca could sign for Atalanta via the domino effect

Domino effects have always played their part in the transfer window, and such a phenomenon could be the key reason why Scamacca returns to Italy this summer via the sale of Zapata or Hojlund being sold to Everton or Arsenal in the transfer window.

With the West Ham man keen on heading back to Serie A and Atalanta eyeing a big sale in the striker department, Scamacca could soon find himself signing for Atalanta if the Toffees or Mikel Arteta decide to pull the trigger on landing a new forward this summer, much to West Ham’s dismay.
