Jesco von Eichmann – a journalist for Sky Germany – has reacted to an interesting rumour which is now emerging from Liverpool.

What’s the story?

Well, Liverpool are now said to have withdrawn from the race to sign Jude Bellingham due to the overall cost of the deal.

The Times believe Jürgen Klopp is aware that he needs to spend wisely on a number of reinforcements rather than putting all of his eggs into one basket, as the likes of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Roberto Firmino head for the exit.

It is a major development at Anfield as many expected Bellingham to become a Liverpool player this summer.

Now, Von Eichmann has shared his thoughts on the story.

The German journalist told Sky Sports: “It’s a little bit surprising that Liverpool have walked away because of the connection between Borussia Dortmund and Jürgen Klopp. Obviously they know each other very well. It’s possible that he will stay but I don’t think so.”

Bellingham has scored ten goals while also providing seven assists in 37 appearances this season.

Goal believe the total cost of a deal would have exceeded £120m for Liverpool – a fee those at Anfield clearly have no interest in paying.

Who Liverpool could get instead of Bellingham

Goal add that there are already a few Bellingham alternatives for Liverpool.

Mason Mount, Nicolo Barella, Teun Koopmeiners, Ryan Gravenberch and Luka Sucic have all been named as targets for Liverpool, with Klopp seemingly ready to overhaul his midfield department entirely.

Of course, some Liverpool fans may be upset by the Bellingham update.

However, it is a sensible decision to go for a number of quality midfield options rather than just one standout addition.

For example, if Liverpool spent their entire budget on Bellingham and he picked up a serious injury, Klopp’s side would be weaker than it already is this season.

Be sure to keep an eye on the situation, as Liverpool attempt to overhaul their midfield.
