Erik Lamela has said that he understands why a host of Tottenham Hotspur fans are aching for Mauricio Pochettino to become their next manager.

The Times had made a claim in late March that Spurs were keen on the Argentine’s return to N17.

While the conversation around which manager is best suited to take over the Tottenham Hotspur job has been constant, Erik Lamela understands why fan sentiment is inclined towards Mauricio Pochettino.

Lamela sides with Tottenham fans over Pochettino verdict

The former Paris Saint-Germain boss remains the club’s greatest ever manager during the Premier League era.

Making the club a staple in the Champions League, guiding them to their first-ever final in the competition and playing attractive football, Pochettino worked wonders on a shoestring budget.

As Tottenham are on the lookout for the right manager to replace Antonio Conte, Erik Lamela has said that he understands the case made by the fans for Mauricio Pochettino.

“Mauricio was a very intelligent coach, who knew always how to lead the group in the best way. He loved working hard, improving, that sense of competition. He was always looking for every detail. He had lots of qualities and that showed in the results that we had”, he told the Times.

“I think the fans have great affection for him because of all the things he did for the club, during all the years he was there. He put the club at the top, both in England and in Europe, and for many years, and at Tottenham that shouldn’t be underestimated.”

“The fans enjoyed that. I hear they want him back. I understand it, whether it will happen, I don’t know.”

Tottenham fans will likely agree with Erik Lamela as they wait to see whether Mauricio Pochettino returns to the club as their manager once again.
