Gabby Agbonlahor has stated that Curtis Jones ‘hasn’t done enough’ for Liverpool amid rumours that they are going to back away from trying to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund during the summer transfer market.

Given how the season has panned out for Liverpool, it’s not the news fans wanted to hear, but it’s been suggested that Jurgen Klopp is ‘on board’ with the call to move away from Jude Bellingham.

But whilst all that talk unfolds, the Reds still have a few young guns in their ranks, who can play in the middle of the park, including academy product, Curtis Jones.

But despite the 22-year-old bursting onto the scene Micah Richards-style, including scoring a stunning goal against Everton in 2020, it has gone downhill in recent years for the player.

He is yet to assist or score this season, despite aiming to hit double figures in goals and assists when the 2022/23 campaign started.

When Agbonlahor reacted to the news about Bellingham, which didn’t surprise him, he also made a brief comment about Jones, as he told talkSPORT Breakfast (12/04/23).

“I am not surprised,” said Agbonlahor. “I said a few weeks ago that Liverpool wouldn’t be able to offer the package. It’s not what they have to pay upfront, it’s how much are his wages.

“Can Liverpool match what Manchester City and Real Madrid can pay him? It’s obvious Liverpool are saying ‘we can’t spend all our transfer budget on one player. We need three midfield players, not one’. He is a generational talent – You look at Curtis Jones starting in there. He hasn’t done enough.”

SHOULD LIVERPOOL LOOK TO MOVE JONES ON?

The futures of some players speak for themselves. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita’s contracts run out in the summer, so they won’t be renewing.

Whilst James Milner might also depart, with Jordan Henderson’s age, 33, putting him in a position where he might just take a step back next season.

But a call has to be made on Jones and whether Liverpool are better off letting him go – Jose Enrique certainly thinks he needs to depart.
